Licensed Care Homes

Licensed care homes (a.k.a board and care homes) offer a smaller home-like environment with 24 hour supervision. In California, the licensing and administrator requirements are similar to those in a larger assisted living community. A typical home has six residents and a combination of private and shared bedrooms with or without a private half bath. Seniors who need assistance with most activities of daily living or closer supervision (e.g. due to high fall risk) are often well-suited for this environment. Unless skilled nursing services are required, residents usually are able to stay in this type of environment through end of life. Because of the size, this is also a quieter environment with limited activities offered on-site based on resident desires and abilities.

"On a scale from one to ten, I say your service is a 10++. It was so helpful to have an experienced counselor like you advising and checking in on my Mom regularly throughout this process – helping us work through all the issues that are so complicated. You were so present, patient and helpful every step of the way. This is one of the most difficult things a family has to do and you really made it less difficult.”
